How Does Tarot Work?

For those who are new to Tarot, it can raise a lot of questions.
How does it work?
What kind of information does it give you?
Where does that information come from?
These are just some of the questions I hear most often, and they're important questions to ask. Tarot can offer tremendous amounts of help to those who seek it out. But how?
When I draw a set of cards, they tell me a story. Each card has its own message to contribute, and together, all of the cards tell me what I need to know (or what my client needs to know) about the situation at hand.
I can get all kinds of information from a Tarot reading. I can figure out what's going to happen if I make a specific change in my life, how to fix my damaged relationship, what my next career move should be. I can even find out why I'm not succeeding at something.
Tarot is like that friend who knows you better than you can possibly know yourself, and always calls you out on all your crap. You know, the one you're thankful for because they save you from having to pay a psychiatrist.
But how do I get all of that information from some pictures on a few cards?
Each card has a designated meaning, but that meaning can change slightly based on the other cards in the reading. For example:

Lets just pretend I drew the Wheel of Fortune in your reading. By itself, it represents the transition of a new cycle. The coming and going of a phase. The turning of seasons. The never ending cycle of life. I would probably tell you that you're entering (or about to enter) a new chapter of your life, and the changes are inevitable.
However, if I draw the Wheel of Fortune with the Eight of Swords, it can mean that an unhealthy cycle keeps repeating itself. I would probably tell you that there's a path you keep choosing to take, even though it's always disastrous and it always leads you right back to where you started.

If I draw The Wheel of Fortune with The Fool, it can represent a tendency to jump into life-changing situations without thinking about the consequences first.

You see how the meanings of the cards can be so dynamic?
It's all about connecting what you see in the cards to the situation. Ultimately, reading Tarot is dependent on the reader's ability to connect the dots between the cards and life. Once you can figure out how the messages in the cards apply to what's happening in your life, a whole flood of new information becomes available to you.
But where do the messages come from? How do the right cards come up at the right time?
Again, I have to blame pure intuition here. I begin shuffling the cards, and my intuition tells me when to stop. I just know. As a result of listening to this feeling, I end up pulling cards that deliver the message that needs to be received.
Intuition is a powerful thing, if you just learn to trust it! I strongly believe that a well developed intuition is the key ingredient in an awesomely accurate Tarot Reading. It's proven true for me time and time again.
