Why Tarot Can't Predict Your Future

Plenty of people want to know about their future. It's only natural for us to be curious, and that's often why many people come to me for a Tarot Reading. They want to know when they will die, or if they will get married, or if they will get the job they want.

These kinds of questions usually get the same answer from me: I can't get you that answer.

"But I thought you were a fortune teller," they say. "I thought Tarot will tell me my future!"

The thing is, Tarot just doesn't work like that. It can't tell you exactly when you're going to die, or what your future lover's birth date is, or exactly what's going to happen to you on a specific date, ten years from now.

Why not? Because there's a thing called free will, and I believe that it has a huge impact on what happens to us in our lives. Yes, some things might just be destined or written in the stars. But we're not bound to a specific path, and we're not doomed to any particular fate.

Our choices - even the small ones - have a much bigger impact on our lives than we realize.

Let's just say that I did a reading for myself this morning and I received a warning that my relationship is in trouble. There is a problem with communication, and one of us isn't getting what we need from the other one. Maybe I even pulled the Death card, or the Five of Cups, which both point toward the end of the relationship. So, do I roll over and accept this as fate? Do I throw my hands in the air and give up?

Of course not! I get up off my ass and I fix the situation. I reestablish a connection with my partner, put work into communication, and make the necessary changes in order to fix the problem before it gets any worse. After a little bit of time and lots of effort, everything is all good.

So, was the reading wrong? Nope, it was totally on point. I received a warning about trouble that was coming up on the horizon. Instead of accepting the outcome that it was showing me, though, I chose to change my path and avoid it.

This is why I insist that Tarot cannot predict your future. Sure, your reading right now may tell you that you're going to end up travelling the world and living a huge adventure. At the moment, that's entirely true. You are a free spirit and you have nothing to tie you down. However, tomorrow you might have a really "off" day. Heavy traffic on the route you normally take might send you to that other coffee shop a few streets down. You might meet someone in there that you wouldn't have met if you'd stayed on your normal course. You fall in love, and decide to marry and have children. Now you have a life that you absolutely love, but it's not like the one described in your reading. That one little choice you made that day changed everything.

Tarot is incredibly helpful because it can give you a glimpse of what's ahead for you on the path you're currently travelling. It's up to you, though, whether or not you want to continue on that path or take another one. You call the shots in your own life, and you decide where you want to go. Tarot can help you figure out how to get there, and how to avoid any problems that may arise. It gives you an advantage in making your life whatever you want it to be!
