How Do Email Tarot Readings Work?

Have you ever wondered if that email reading you're getting is actually legit? After all, how can a person possibly read your cards without having ever met you?
This is a question I get all the time. As someone who conducts readings by email, phone, and video chat, email readings are by far the most questioned. It seems widely accepted for a Tarot Reader to be able to give an accurate reading in person, over the phone, or even over video chat. However, there's something about email readings that seems to bring out the skeptic in a lot of people.
If you do them correctly, email readings are just as accurate as any other kind of reading. In fact, in terms of accuracy and detail, I prefer email readings over any other format! In order to demonstrate why that is, I'd like to explain to you just how they work.
Readings work off of energy. A reader zones in on the energy of the querent, and uses it as the center of focus during the reading. This is how we ensure that the cards are referring to the querent and not to something else. It's easy to pick up on someone's energy if they're sitting right in front of you, or even if you can hear their voice over the phone. Those aren't the only ways to pick up someone else's energy, though. It can be done with any identifying information about them, like their name and birthdate, a picture of their face, or even a username that is unique and personal to that person. Anything that allows you to center your focus on one specific person will allow you to pick up their energy for a reading.
An ability to control your focus is all you need, really.
It's essentially the same process I use for choosing which topic to read on. If I want a reading on my love life, I need to focus on that topic while drawing cards. This prevents the reading from being about my career or that argument I had with my sister last week. I have to focus my attention on a specific question I have about my relationship, and then I have to transfer my focused energy into the cards. This is how I tell them what I want to know, and this is how I end up drawing cards that accurately fit with the topic of the reading. If my focus isn't solid, I might end up drawing cards that don't fit well, or that refer to another topic altogether.
That's how I can do a reading on someone I've never met who lives all the way across the world! With their name, I can focus my attention on their name and their question for the reading. I can also effectively picture their face in my mind, or even just use their email address or an alias they've made up. Most readers ask for name and birthdate for readings. As long as we have some way of narrowing the focus down to the querent and no one else. You just have to focus. It really doesn't matter if a reader has ever met their client before, or even how far apart they are. With the ability to focus, a reader can pick up on the energy they need to do an accurate reading!
Email is actually my favorite format for a reading! Obviously, the deadline for completing an email reading isn't quite as strict as other formats. Appointments are appointments, but an email reading can be done at my leisure. This isn't the biggest reason I like them so much, though. In my opinion, doing a reading in email format allows me to be more thorough than I can be with an appointment reading!
Appointments are often very limited in time, and are conducted in a conversational style. This means that I sit down with my client (or talk on the phone or video chat), I read the cards, and I tell them what I see in the cards. If my client has questions, they can ask as we go. I draw as many cards as we need to get all of the questions answered within the scheduled time period. Once the time is up, it's up, and I have to make sure I've communicated all of the information I can within that time period. If you've never done a scheduled reading before, you'd be surprised how fast an hour seems to go by! The information we get from the cards is often a lot to take in! I do encourage my clients to take notes, during the reading, but I've found that doing so often takes up a huge portion of our time. Very few clients opt to record the reading.
Email readings are very different, though. When I get the order, I put it next in line on my calendar (email readings are first-come-first-serve). I don't set time limits for myself while doing email readings, although sometimes I think I probably should! This means that I can really take my time. If I need an hour and a half to finish the reading, then so be it! It's also kind of like doing the reading twice. I pull the cards, take a photo of the cards, and take notes about what I see going on in the cards. Then, I take my notes to the computer to type up the reading. I often end up seeing things while typing up the reading that I completely missed initially. I'm able to take a second look at the reading, and to take my time with it. While I try to be as thorough as possible during live readings, I feel like email format allows me to really take my time with it and take it to the next level!
In addition, I'm well aware that I'm much better at communicating while writing than I am while speaking. I have this horrible habit of stuttering and getting stuck on not being able to find the correct words to get my point across. I don't have that problem in writing, though. It allows me the time to get my sentences just right, and make sure I'm sharing all of the right information in just the right order. I do write as though I am speaking to my client, it's just much less messy! I think that being able to communicate through writing instead of speaking is my very favorite part of doing email readings!
