Monthly Moon Rituals

Have you ever noticed that people seem to get kind of crazy during a full moon? Emotions run high and people sometimes act out in ways that they normally wouldn't. Sometimes things seem intense and explosive, or maybe even rushed and irritable. Sometimes feelings are easily hurt or anger is quickly evoked.

Or have you ever gone outside on the night of the new moon and just listened? The world tends to be calm, still, in rest. Things are quieter, as if the world is in hibernation. Do you ever wonder why this is?

There's no denying that our moon has great power over us and the planet we live on. As it waxes and wanes, it pulls vast amounts of water and shifts our energies in such an incredible capacity that it actually has a significant impact on us.

As the moon moves through its different phases every month, it inspires our own cycles to flow along. We may not see it, but we go go through our own phases that coincide with what the moon is doing. A perfect example of this is the well-known superstition that the crazy comes out of people on a full moon. While we may not all experience temporary spells of complete lunacy just because the moon is full, there is definitely some merit behind this claim!

So, knowing that our moon is capable of manipulating the energy here on Earth, we can actually plan our magical work so that it coincides with the energy of the moon. If we plan and work in harmony with the natural flow of energy, we can significantly boost our success! All we have to do is know what kind of energy coincides with which phase of the moon. But that'll be easy because I'm about to tell you!

The cycle of the moon begins in the new moon phase, or the dark moon. This is when the moon cannot be seen in the sky. This is the phase that tends to have a calming effect on the Earth. This phase represents the moments before a new beginning. Rest, reflection, and planning are all ideal activities during this time. This is also the perfect time to get rid of the things that no longer work for you, before you move into the next phase of the cycle.

As the moon begins to move into waxing, you'll notice that a little bit more of it is visible every night. This is the time to build, to work toward our goals.

When we reach the full moon, this is the time when the moon's energy is at its most powerful. Now is the perfect time for manifestation. It's when we set our intentions and send them out into the universe, so that it can bring us what we want to attract. Now is the time to do, to launch, to announce, to create. This is the peak of the moon's energy for the month, so use it to fuel you!

After the full moon has gone, we see the moon start to wane and it is less visible every night. We can feel its energy dwindling down over the next couple of weeks, and preparing to end the current cycle. Soon, we will have another new moon, and the whole cycle begins again.

I use the energy of the moon phases to my advantage by scheduling rituals during the moon phase that will compliment the goal of the ritual. For example, the new moon is perfect for rituals that focus on reflection ("soul searching is especially powerful during this time), getting rid of negativity, breaking bad habits, letting go of what holds us down. A full moon is better for rituals that focus on manifesting good things, like starting a new habit or routine, making big announcements, creating new things, pursuing a new path, etc. The full moon energy helps us along with bringing about positive change.
