A Simple Grounding Meditation

This grounding ritual was the very first meditation I ever learned to do, and it remains my favorite to this day! I love grounding because it puts you in deep contact with the world around you, and it allows you to connect and become an integrated part of the energetic circuit that flows through your environment. Plus, it can be done just about anywhere in as little as five minutes!
We often get so caught up in the busy and mundane world we've created for ourselves that we begin to operate on a much lower wavelength than that of our natural world. This can jam up our chakras, block out our sense of intuition, and contribute to a buildup of stress and anxiety.
Staying connected to the natural world is vital for us to function well as spiritual beings. Here's how to do it:
Pick a spot to sit down that is as close to the ground as possible. Ideally, you would do this outdoors to minimize the amount of concrete between yourself and the Earth beneath you. This isn't always practical for everyone though, so just do the best you can with where you are. Make sure it's in a spot where you won't be distracted. Get comfy, close your eyes.
Imagine that you are a tree. Whatever part of you is touching the ground (I usually sit on my butt, but you can use your feet for this part, or even your hands) becomes your base that anchors you to the Earth beneath you. Imagine yourself sending roots into the ground. Picture it in your mind's eye as your roots grow and spread deep down into the soil. Notice how you are now firmly planted where you are.
Feel the energy flow. When you've got your roots planted firmly into the soil, imagine them drawing in energy from the Earth. Picture them moving energy from the ground, up into you. You'll feel a light, warm tingle as the energy flows through you. Then, send it right back down where it came from. Repeat this process as many times and you need or want to. The Earth has a wonderful ability to neutralize energy. Connecting yourself to the flow of the Earth's energy allows it to cleanse and neutralize the energy within yourself. It wipes your slate clean and resets what was out of balance.
Withdraw from the circuit. When you feel you're finished, draw your roots up from the ground and back into yourself. You should feel a sense of renewal and a peaceful calm.
Do this as often as you like! This is a great bed-time habit that will help you unwind from a stressful day and sleep better through the night. It's also great first thing in the morning to help start your day off on a fantastic energetic level. You can also use it to help relieve stress during the day, or anytime you want!
Know a friend who might enjoy this meditation? Share it with them... they'll thank you for it!
