Fire Cider Hot Toddy Recipe

I've recently been introduced to fire cider and I am *absolutely* hooked!

If you're not familiar with fire cider, it's an old-school tonic that contains things like apple cider vinegar, garlic, onion, citrus, and other kick-you-in-the-ass type of ingredients. It's traditionally used as an immune booster. You take a shot of it when you're feeling a cold coming on and it'll shut that shit down real quick.

I grew up using fresh, raw garlic as the go-to remedy whenever I felt some kind of ickyness coming on. It makes sense, as it's well known to give the immune system a boost in warding off oncoming bacterial and viral infections.

Fire cider is so many levels above that though. I was introduced to it at one of the local maker's markets I was vending at recently. The lovely peopleĀ at theĀ table next to mineĀ make some really high-quality herbal remedies. I was really impressed by their fire cider!

Obviously, I bought some. Ever since then, I've been trying to come up with some ways to incorporate it into my diet without just taking a shot of it. So far it's been really good in salad dressing and tea. I decided to try it in a hot toddy as well, since that's my favorite drink. Why not, right?

Here's the recipe I used. It came out very well in my opinion, but obviously this is a recipe that's easy to alter to fit your personal taste!

Fire Cider Hot Toddy Ingredients

Fire Cider Hot Toddy

1 tbsp fire cider (I'm using Elderberry Pomegranate Fire Cider from Blessed Earth Herbals).
1 shot of your favorite whiskey (my shots measure 1/4 cup or 60ml. I'm using Jameson Irish Whiskey).
1 tsp lemon juice
A drizzle of honey
1/2 cup warm water, or enough to fill your cup

Add all ingredients into your favorite mug and give it a stir. Drink while warm.

Special shoutout to Christa and Devon at Blessed Earth Herbals for introducing me to fire cider, which is now a "pantry staple" in my kitchen. šŸ–¤
